The UGREEN US221 (50743) 2.5-Inch SATA HDD/SSD Enclosure turns a compatible internal laptop drive into portable USB storage. It features a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C interface with up to 10Gbps theoretical USB bandwidth and an internal SATA III connection rated up to 6Gbps.
Supporting 2.5-inch SATA HDDs and SSDs up to 6TB, this enclosure combines tool-free installation, UASP support and a compact ABS housing. It is useful for backups, file transfers and reusing existing storage. Explore the UGREEN US221 (50743) price in Bangladesh at IT Source.
Replacing an old laptop hard drive or upgrading to a new SSD often leaves a working SATA drive unused. The UGREEN US221 (50743) provides a simple way to reuse that drive as external storage.
Instead of installing the drive inside another computer, users can place it in the enclosure and access compatible files through a USB connection.
This makes the US221 useful for storing documents, transferring photographs, maintaining backups and recovering access to files on a drive removed during a computer upgrade.
The enclosure is specifically designed for conventional 2.5-inch SATA HDDs and SSDs. It does not directly support M.2 NVMe, M.2 SATA, mSATA or 3.5-inch desktop hard drives.
The UGREEN US221 (50743) features a USB Type-C enclosure port using the USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface, rated for up to 10Gbps theoretical bandwidth.
This provides a suitable connection for transferring documents, photographs, videos and backup files between the installed SATA drive and a compatible computer.
The enclosure connects to a standard USB-A computer port using its 50cm USB-A to USB-C cable. A compatible USB-C host can also be used with an appropriate separately obtained data cable.
Actual transfer performance depends on the SATA drive, host USB port and cable. USB interface bandwidth is not the same as sustained storage read or write speed.
The US221 (50743) supports conventional 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drives and solid-state drives with standard SATA data and power connections.
Its internal SATA III interface is rated for up to 6Gbps and is backward compatible with SATA II and SATA I drives.
This makes the enclosure useful for repurposing laptop HDDs, accessing files on older SATA SSDs and preparing separate external backup drives.
The USB connection may offer up to 10Gbps bandwidth, but the internal SATA III interface limits the drive connection to 6Gbps theoretical bandwidth. The enclosure cannot provide NVMe-level transfer speeds.
The UGREEN US221 (50743) supports compatible 2.5-inch SATA drives with thicknesses of 7mm and 9.5mm.
These dimensions cover many commonly used laptop hard drives and standard 2.5-inch SATA SSDs.
UGREEN's product documentation specifies support for storage capacities up to 6TB, providing useful space for multimedia files, business documents and personal backups.
The enclosure does not include an HDD or SSD. Storage capacity depends on the installed drive, and thicker drives may not fit correctly.
The US221 features a tool-free installation design that allows users to open the enclosure and install a compatible SATA drive without conventional screwdriver-based assembly.
This is particularly convenient when replacing a laptop drive or converting an existing internal SSD into portable storage.
The enclosure's ABS plastic housing protects the installed drive from normal handling, while internal EVA foam padding helps reduce movement when using a thinner drive.
Users should ensure that the SATA connector is correctly seated and the enclosure is securely closed before connecting it to a computer.
The UGREEN US221 (50743) supports USB Attached SCSI Protocol, or UASP, when connected to a compatible operating system and USB controller.
UASP can improve storage command handling compared with older USB mass-storage methods, especially when working with a suitable SATA SSD.
The enclosure is designed for convenient plug-and-play operation on supported Windows, macOS and Linux computers without a dedicated driver for ordinary storage use.
A new drive may require initialization and formatting before it appears as usable storage. Formatting an existing drive can erase files, so important data should be backed up beforehand.
The UGREEN US221 (50743) uses a compact black ABS plastic housing suitable for everyday desk use and portable storage.
Its approximate dimensions are 128.5 × 82 × 14mm, allowing it to fit conveniently beside a laptop or inside an accessory bag.
The detachable 50cm USB-A to USB-C cable provides a straightforward connection to compatible desktop and laptop USB-A ports.
The enclosure uses USB bus power with compatible 2.5-inch drives, avoiding the need for a separate power adapter under normal supported conditions. Users should safely eject the drive before disconnecting it.
The UGREEN US221 (50743) is suitable for students, office professionals, laptop owners, IT technicians and anyone who wants to reuse an existing 2.5-inch SATA drive.
It is particularly useful for local backups, accessing files from a replaced laptop HDD, moving data between computers and creating portable SATA SSD storage.
Users with M.2 NVMe SSDs or 3.5-inch desktop hard drives should choose a different enclosure designed for those drive formats.
